Virtual Cell: Screen Captures - Upclose

Navigating through space is one of the powers of 3D virtual worlds. Here we have traveled right up to the NADH dehydrogenase complex in the animation. NADH (orange-purle-gold object) is releasing its electron (star object) as a hydrogen ion (brown circular object) is pumped across the membrane. The mobile carrier ubiquinone is also positioned to receive the electron and transport it to b-c1 complex on the right.

This is a close up of the ATP synthase complex. The production of ATP is occurring as the hydrogens are pumped back across the membrane into the matrix space of the mitochondria.
